Juan is a kid from the neighbourhood. He grew up watching his friends ride bikes—none of them professionally—but he was always a little different and a bit crazier than the rest.
When he turned 15, he had to stop riding to work and help his mother. It wasn’t until he turned 18 that he returned to cycling, competing in a local race and unexpectedly beating the best riders in Medellín. Juan didn’t understand how he had done it. That was the moment a local sponsor noticed him and offered support for the next race—at the time, the most important one in Colombia. Juan’s biggest motivation is his family and changing their story. In sports, his greatest inspiration has always been Loïc Bruni. Since he was very young, he watched Loïc at the World Cups and saw him as the rider to follow. Juan never imagined speaking to him, let alone considering him a friend and receiving advice from his idol. Now he wants to beat his idol—not out of rivalry, but to prove to himself that he can fulfil his childhood dream and take it to the next level. Juan likes to travel, get to know his country better, climb mountains with friends, play soccer and basketball, ride motorcycles, go jogging, and spend time with the people who have always believed in him.
